Jan. 31

Well, the Eagles set went pretty well- nice to play with Luke, Gary, Peter and Paul- thanks, guys!

Next Monday Rhonda and I are going with Mom to Blackie and the Rodeo Kings at the Esplanade in the Hat, and even Moe gets a road trip! Yippee!

Jan. 19

Just got a call from Doug Riley, he's enlisted me to fill in for Doug Norman at the Royal in February- should be fun!

Matt got the big idea to do whole album sets at the Owl on Sundays, so we're doing the Eagles' Greatest Hits on Sunday the 29th, come on out and see how we do. Gary Beatty will be playing banjo, as well as some other henchmen of Matt's.

Can't wait for Saturday, it's supposed to warm up! We'll be in the St. James Gate Pub in Banff, come on by and we'll drink on Matt's tab!

Jan. 5

Happy birthday, Rhonda!

Jan. 1, 2012

Happy New Year! The Tamales had a boatload of fun at Wild Bill's in Banff this weekend- what a zoo it was in there last night! Can't wait 'til we go back there in February.

Dec. 9

Congrats to Chris and Leanne Streifel, apparently the new guy showed up last Friday!

Speaking of new additions, I got myself a Fender Vibrolux in November and I'm sure digging it! Now I need another!

I complained about the wind in the last post, but I should have waited. We had actual hurricane force winds here Nov. 27th and it knocked my fence over! I hope it's not a harbinger of winter weather to come.

Christmas parties all weekend for the Hot Tamales, Merry Humbug!

Nov. 24

No baby for Chris that weekend, so he was stuck playing drums with me. Corb especially enjoyed the atmosphere of the Cecil. Alcohol seems to have an amplifying effect on gravity in there for some folks.

I think the chinook winds of the last two days pushed Strathmore a lot closer to Saskatchewan, so I'll have to give myself more time to drive into Calgary this weekend. Sidewinder will play the Chapelhow Legion with JC and his tipsy bass.

Nov. 10

This weekend the Hernia Brothers are in the Octane in Medicine Hat, featuring Corbie Dorner on keys and whatever drummer that doesn't have a wife in labour at the moment. Should be interesting.

Oct. 25

WOW!!!! Jeff Beck was unbelievable last night. Best guitar player on the planet, hands down.

Hey, the Tamales are back at the Winkin' Owl on Sunday nights and we need really large flabby people to become sound baffles. Apparently the point of the renovations was to make the sound environment more reflective and LOUD! Skinny, boney people are of course welcome, too, but bring a sweater and some tubby friends, okay?

This weekend, the Tamales debut at the Riverstone for Halloween weekend!

Oct. 14

Okay, I'm putting up some unmastered versions of my tunes I've been working on. I'll post them here, and on Facebook, if I figure out how.

Luke Wants To Be A Fridge

Tooth And Nail

Woman Back Home

I TOLD you I was getting somewhere with the recording!

Oct. 4

Happy birthday, Willie!

Okay, yeah, it's getting longer between posts on here. Oh, well, I have had a busy summer. I just got some of the final recording done at Chris' studio in the Hat. I just want to add some piano by Corb, and I'm going to wrap up the project and release it- honest!

This weekend I'm playing guitar with Bill Blayney et al at the Big Al's Saturday afternoon jam. Starts at 4 PM!

Aug. 5

Well, there's half the summer gone! Things have been really busy between playing with the Tamales and my various other projects. Just spent a claustrophobic weekend at the St. James Gate Pub in Banff on a ridiculously small stage at night and sandwiched in with ten million tourists everywhere else during the days. Tonight we play the Cash Casino on Blackfoot Trail, where I'm sure we'll be too loud. My big project right now is finding a bass player who is a combination of Jaco Pastorius, Victor Wooten, Jack Bruce and Geddy Lee to impress Bentley in a few weeks. Well, at least if we don't play the gig, he'll know first!

June 23

I got Jeff Beck tickets this morning! I'm pumped! Thanks, Nancy!

Things are starting to roll with the Hot Tamales, with lots of dates coming up, come out and see us! This weekend at the Viper Room, downtown Calgary.

May 31

We had an awesome time at Wild Bill's in Banff! I hope we're back there really soon!

Speaking of awesome, Rhonda and I are going to Supertramp on Saturday. Yippee!

May 11

For whatever reason, our date at the Tropicana has been moved to the Riverstone this weekend, May 14-15.

Apr. 29

Starting this Sunday, I will be playing guitar with the Hot Tamales, every Sunday at the Winking Owl in Deer Run, starting at 8 PM.

The bar business has gone through the usual upheaval due to the ongoing recession, and gigs are fewer and farther between. Fortunately, Matt Beatty has decided that going four piece is the new way forward, so over the next few months I will end up working mainly with Matt and the Hot Tamales or "The Second String Cowboys", the C&W permutation of the same line up. I've always had a great time playing with Matt, so this should be a real good thing. The big downside is going to be working much less with Alida, but hopefully something will turn up to rectify that aspect.

So come out and see Sidewinder while the getting's good, we're at the Ogden Legion this weekend, starting at-GASP!- 6:30 PM. The lovely and talented JC MacDonald is on bass this weekend.

April 9

Rhonda and I went to the David Lindley/Harry Manx concert last night at Knox United church, and it was awesome! I had been waiting for months to see this show and it was well worth the wait!

Sidewinder is back at the Riverstone next weekend with Ray Duhaime on bass- also worth the wait!

March 29

The Elements Lounge gig at the Medicine Hat Lodge went great. What a nice bunch of folks there! Thanks to JC on bass.

Tonight Rhonda and I are going to see Jackson Brown. Woohoo!

March 1

Well, it was worth the wait- the last two weekends with Ray were a whole bunch of fun! Thanks, Ray, can't wait 'til we do it again!

More new stuff, we begin rehearsing as the Amber Fleury Band tonight for the T&C gig next week, AND this weekend marks the induction of a new Hernia Brother, Corbie Dorner! I gotta go learn some Stevie Wonder.

Feb. 15

Evidently, crazy loud golf pants aren't considered appropriate attire at the Deerfoot Casino. Oh well.

Sidewinder is at the newly- and fabulously- renovated Tropicana this weekend with Ray Duhaime on bass. Yippee!

Feb. 7

Just booked, Sidewinder will be in the casino in the Medicine Hat Lodge in March. JC McDonald will be playing bass. JC played with us at the Chapelhow Legion just past and did a great job!

Rhon and I saw Don Felder last night, it was really good. Rhonda even clapped!

This weekend I'm with Matt Beatty, fresh from his Dominican Republic gig. DON'T ask to see his tan lines!

Jan. 11

Well, the year has had a rough start- with the blizzard on Saturday, I was stranded in Strathmore, and couldn't finish the weekend. That's the first time ever the weather has actually kept me from a gig!

We had Ray Duhaime playing bass and hope to have him again soon. Thanks to Alida, Ray and Doug Charters for looking after my gear til I could come get it on Monday.

This weekend, Kenny D and Troy Clark will join me at Grampas Pub in Forest Lawn. Always a new adventure!

Jan. 3, 2011

Happy New Year! Had a great time at Ralph's with Lori Kole's bunch! See you in 2011!
